With the arrival of October, the haunting season is here — but don’t let your fashions cause a fright! Autumn in Pittsburgh is packed with things to do, see and shop for to keep your style knowledge and look sharp any time of the year.

Here are Stylebook’s fashion tips for the month ahead:

New place to shop: Another boutique recently joined Lawrenceville’s bustling shopping scene. The Gilded Girl Beauty Emporium at 5104 Butler St. specializes in luxury and indie cosmetic brands, with a vintage-meets-Parisian flair. Plus, it’s home to an essential oils bar where shoppers can work with specialists to create a custom blend that caters to each person’s likes and skin needs. Owner Liz Quesnelle, a licensed esthetician with more than a decade of experience in the beauty industry, also plans to hold events and how-to classes in the space.

Alexander Wang Fashion designer Alexander Wang greets the crowd after showing his spring/summer 2016 collection during New York Fashion Week in New York, September 12, 2015. The 31-year-old designer also is marking the 10-year anniversary of the brand with a special #Wang10 capsule collection.

Must-see event for street style: Dream of being immortalized by the lens of legendary street style photographers like the New York Times’ Bill Cunningham? This year’s Oakland Forevermulti-day event (Oct. 8-10) will feature its first fashion show, which will be devoted to all-things street style. Organizers are inviting the public to show them their best street style looks by sharing them on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #OFASHIONFRIDAY. A panel of celebrity judges (including yours truly and my “Setting the SEEN” Web show co-host, SEEN editor Natalie Bencivenga), will then help pick the best ones that will be showcased in a street-style competition at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 9 along Forbes Avenue. “Setting the SEEN” also will be popping up before the event with its pink carpet to chat with fashionistas (and fashionistos!) on the scene. Later that day from 6-6:30 p.m. there will be a street couture fashion show.

Exhibition to explore: The relationship between style and identity is at the heart of “Dandy Lion: (Re)Articulating Black Masculine Identity,” an exhibition at the Silver Eye Center for Photography on the South Side through Nov. 14. It examines historical and contemporary views of the “Black Dandy” phenomenon in pop culture and juxtaposes stereotypes of black masculinity and identity (such as the myth of the young black male “thug“) with alternative styles of dressing. The traveling exhibition is curated by Shantrelle P. Lewis and organized by the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago.

Calling all Halloween lovers: The predictions are in! For the 11th consecutive year, the classic witch costume tops the National Retail Federation’s Top Costumes survey, conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. For kids, a princess is the most coveted costume, and a pumpkin is the top pick for pets. Minions and “Star Wars” characters landed a spot on all three lists. For those seeking something more stylish to wear during the spooky season, there are plenty of brands that carry apparel and accessories suitable for everyday wear but have a festive nod to the holiday. Stylebook’s pick: Pittsburgh’s own ModCloth. The e-commerce site is stocked this time of year with creepily cute separates and dresses with skeleton prints, quirky handbags, ghostly earrings and stilettos that will make you look twice!

Style splurge alert: On the heels of New York Fashion Week, all eyes are on Alexander Wang. The 31-year-old designer marked his decade in the business with a star-studded runway show and an equally unforgettable after party. To commemorate the anniversary, the brand has released the capsule collection Wang 10, made up of re-released fan-favorite fashions from past collections. They cost a pretty penny — a pair of leather stretch pants go for $1,295 — but who puts a price on a piece of fashion history, right?
