Girls from area high schools can get the prom prom dresses uk of their dreams free from Altrusa International of Akron’s annual Princess Night Project.

Since 2001, local members of Altrusa International, a volunteer service organization, have helped make prom dreams come true for over 1,500 girls by providing them with a free prom dress. This year’s Princess Night Project is Saturday, March 11, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Family of Faith United Methodist Church, located at 800 East Market St. in Akron.

No recommendation or qualification is needed. Any girl who attends gets to choose from over 1,000 gowns hanging by size on the many racks. Altrusa asks only for the name of the girl’s school and how she heard about Princess Night Project.

Once registered, the girls select a gown with the help of aides to direct them to the proper sizes. The aides act as “personal shoppers” helping make selections from the dresses. Should the gown need a few alterations to make it fit perfectly, no problem. Altrusa has it covered. Seamstresses are available to make minor alterations.

Altrusa also offers a large selection of prom dresses online shoes and other accessories such as purses, wraps and jewelry. Complimentary makeup and fragrance samples will also be given to the girls for use on prom night.

Altrusa is accepting donations of new or gently used prom gowns, shoes, jewelry, purses and wraps. Donations may be dropped off at locations in Ellet and West Akron. Gowns and accessories may also be brought to the church on Friday, March 10 during the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
