Taking part for the first time in the 2016 Project Jejemon, Shaneel Kumar was amazed at how things have turned out after winning the Designer of the Year Award.

“It still seems unreal to me and I cannot believe that I have come so far,” Mr Kumar said winning the award amoung the seven designers.

“I am so thankful to the Project Jejemon producer and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) TV host Andhy Blake for bringing such a platform where youths are given opportunities to showcase their talents.”

The 2016 Project Jejemon was held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old also won the Fantasy Award.

Mr Kumar designed his outfits using recycled plastic bags.

“I have been in the fashion designing industry for the last four years and had been doing Fiji Fashion Week designer shows.

“From the Fiji Fashion Week platform; I have able to come to Project Jejemon.

“I am so thankful to my mother Joona Kunambere for supporting me in every step.

“She is my inspiration and she is the reason I am here today.”

Mr Kumar said he was also inspired by local fashion designer Anton Conway and international designer Alexander McQueen.

“I did not expect to win the designer of the year but now after winning it, I have now gained more confidence to do better.

“I will be taking part in the Project Jejemon and Fiji Fashion Week next year.”

Mr Kumar has advised the youths to showcase their designing talent at the Project Jejemon platform.
